Ismael Bennacer states importance of winning the San Siro derby

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer is looking forward to the San Siro derby against Inter Milan this weekend. The Rossoneri were unable to secure a point against Inter during the previous campaign and they will be hoping to make amends this time around as they seek to push for the Champions League positions once more.

Speaking to DAZN, Bennacer said that he has never played in a derby and the upcoming clash remains his first. He added that the team must show more hunger and have to do everything within their reach to come up with the maximum points this weekend, he told: “I’ve never played in a derby, so this is my first, but all the games are the same to me, we have to win every game and take home the three points.
“Of course, the derby is different from all the other games because we play against Inter and we all have to fight together, we need to show even more hunger on the pitch, we mustn’t give an inch and play with our heads held high. The kind of game I’m expecting? We played Hellas Verona, now we’re playing against Inter… we have to win, we have to do everything we can to win this derby.”

The Rossoneri started the season on a slow note with an away defeat at Udinese but they have since found momentum with back-to-back wins over Brescia and Hellas Verona. Meanwhile, Inter are the only team with the perfect tally of points after the opening three league games and they are currently holding a two-point lead over the rest at the top of the table.

The Nerazzurri have strengthened the attack with the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, and there is the optimism that they can push for the league title this season. Unlike the Rossoneri, Inter have qualified for the Champions League over the past two campaigns and that has enabled them to strengthen the squad further without concerns over the Financial Fair Play.
