SERIE A: MILAN SECURE TOP SPOT

AC Milan are the new leaders in the Italian Serie A after their slim win over Torino at the San Siro on Tuesday night. The Rossonerineeded at least a draw to move above Napoli at the summit and they got more than the draw thanks to the 1-0 victory at home to the team from Turin.

Milan have shown that they mean business at the start of this Italian Serie A season after they were beaten to the league title by Antonio Conte and Inter Milan last season. Stefano Pioli and his players are determined to go one better than last season and they have started the new league campaign well to make this happen.

AC Milan signed Frenchman Olivier Giroud in the summer and the ex-Arsenal striker has been influential in the first quarter of this season. He provided the only goal of the game on 14 minutes after good work from RadeKrunic to ensure that his team moved three points ahead of Napoli on the table. Napoli can take top spot back if they win their game against Bologna on Thursday.

Giroud has made a fantastic start to his AC Milan career especially at home. The Frenchman scored the winning goal against Torino to continue his good form in front of the Milan fans at the San Siro. The French World Cup winner has now scored in all his three home games in the league at the start of his Milan career. He’s only the second Milan player to start his first three home games with a goal since the 1994/95 season. Giroud has now scored in all his three home games thus becoming the second player after Mario Balotelli (2013) to achieve the feat in 26 years.

Giroud has not won a league title since his time in France in Montpellier almost a decade ago and he would be hoping to achieve the league title with Milan this season.
