REAL MADRID CONSIDER SIGNING AC MILAN STRIKER OLIVIER GIROUD

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Olivier Giroud is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions are hoping to pounce on the 35-year-old striker’s potentially reduced role to prise him away from AC Milan. Olivier Giroud has been one of the most underrated strikers of the last half a decade, as he was a handy contributor to Chelsea’s success before making his mark for AC Milan in the 2021/22 season. The Frenchman also played a pivotal role in helping Les Bleus win the 2018 FIFA World Cup, even though he was not prolific.

The 35-year-old had a solid record of 14 goals and four assists in 38 appearances for AC Milan in the 2021/22 season, chipping in with crucial goals to help deliver the Serie A title. But the arrival of Divock Origi this summer might hamper Giroud’s status in Stefano Pioli’s squad. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will prefer not to sign another player in the summer transfer window, with Carlo Ancelotti happy with the squad he currently has at his disposal. The Italian tactician recently insisted that Los Blancos will not sign any more players, but that stance has changed in the last few days. Marco Asensio, Borja Mayoral, and Mariano Diaz face uncertain futures at Real Madrid, with Mayoral reportedly closing in on joining Getafe in a €10 million deal. But the reigning La Liga champions are unlikely to enter the market if Mayoral is the only attacker to leave this summer.

However, if Mariano and Asensio get closer to the exit door at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid might have to delve into the market for another striker. Giroud is thus a viable target despite his advancing years, as he will be a reliable deputy to Karim Benzema in the 2021/22 season.
