MILAN START UCL CAMPAIGN WITH DRAW

Italian champions AC Milan secured a 1-1 draw against hosts Red Bull Salzburg to start their Champions League campaign with a draw. They had to come from behind to earn the said result at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria.

AC Milan have been drawn in Group E in this season’s Champions League group stage alongside Red Bull Salzburg, Chelsea and Dinamo Zagreb. They would be hoping to avoid the same group stage exit result from last season. The Italians finished at the bottom of their group behind Portuguese side FC Porto, Spanish team Atletico Madrid and top spot recipient Liverpool.

Manager Stefano Pioli and his AC Milan qualified for the Champions League this season by finishing ahead of city rivals Inter Milan and Napoli at the top of the Italian Serie A. AC Milan were able to win the Italian Serie A title off Inter Milan at the end of last season. Milan are seven-time champions of the competition and they would be hoping to do better than their group stage exit performance from last season.

AC Milan came into the Salzburg game on the back of an impressive win over Inter Milan in the Milan Derby. Portuguese international Rafael Leao was the star of the show after he scored twice for the Rossoneri. The win ensured that AC Milan secured a top-three spot on the Italian Serie A table. However, they went behind in the Salzburg game after Swiss international star Noah Okaforgave the hosts the lead before Alexis Saelemaekers ensured that AC Milan left Austria with a point.

Milan would be hoping they can get their first win in the group when they play hosts to Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia next week Wednesday. Dinamo Zagreb are the surprise leaders in Group E after they stunned Chelsea 1-0 at home.
