A second successive Italian Serie A title is slipping away from holders Inter Milan after the 2-1 defeat at Bologna in a rescheduled game played on Wednesday night. Inter Milan came into the game against Bologna with a two-point deficit to city rivals AC Milan and with the chance to go one point over the Rossoneri with an away win over Bologna. Also, Italian champions Inter Milan came into the Bologna game with a run of five straight wins in all competitions including a four-match winning run in the league.

Inter Milan came into the away game against Bologna with the opportunity to leapfrog AC Milan at the Italian Serie A summit with a win and they made a bright start with the goal from Croatian international Ivan Perisic in the fourth minute. The goal from Perisic gave the Nerazzuria fantastic platform to get the win needed to secure top spot, but they were unable to take advantage. Austrian international Marko Arnautovic levelled proceedings for Bologna on 28 minutes to ensure that the two teams went into the break with a goal apiece. The two teams were heading for a draw until Nicola Sansone pounced on the error from Inter goalkeeper IonutRadu nine minutes from time to give Bologna the win and hurt the Nerazzuri’s chances of retaining their league title.
With four games left, AC Milan have a two-point lead over Inter Milan after the defeat to Bologna.
