AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso left frustrated after 1-1 draw against Parma

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has said that he may not be good enough to help players overcome minor mistakes in their game. The Rossoneri squandered the opportunity to cement the fourth position with a 1-1 draw against Parma on the road and speaking after the game, Gattuso lamented on the carelessness which cost them valuable points.

He said: “Maybe I’m not good enough to make people understand these little things. We expected to do something more, we knew the difficulties of the opponent. On the offside we were unlucky, it wasn’t very clear, we have to look ahead. In the first half we played under rhythm, it wasn’t a great performance, we were good and lucky to find the advantage, then they found a great goal on a free kick after our ingenuity.”

Milan appeared on course for the three points after Samu Castillejo found the scoresheet in the 69th minute. However, they could not hold on to the advantage for the rest of the game after veteran defender Bruno Alves popped up a 87th-minute equaliser for Parma and put a dent of their Champions League aspirations for next season.

The Rossoneri are currently two points ahead of AS Roma on the table but they stand the chance of being leapfrogged by the Giallorossi, should they beat Inter Milan on the road. Gattuso’s side have another five games for the league campaign and among those, they have a couple of tricky away games against Torino and Fiorentina. The same remains the case with other teams around them and the race for the final Champions League spot could go down to the wire.

Before those fixtures, however, Milan have the chance to reach the Coppa Italia final, should they overcome Lazio in midweek. The Rossoneri settled for a 0-0 draw during the away leg of the semi-final and they now have the opportunity to beat Lazio with a strong performance in front of their home supporters.
