Pressure increases on Inzaghi

Pressure has increased on AC Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi in the last few weeks after his team’s winless run stretched to 3 matches after a 1-1 draw with Cesena. The club started the new season with a lot of positivity after winning the opening two matches. This even sparked suggestions of a title bid, but that soon went away after a 1-0 defeat against Juventus. They followed this match with a 2-2 draw with Empoli. Now, this 1-1 draw with Cesena has threatened not only to take the club out of the title contention, but also the race to finish in the top three.

Inzaghi was disappointed man after the match, as he felt that his team should have taken all three points for the performance and hard work they put in. As a result of this defeat, Milan are now level on points with local rivals Inter Milan with eight points on the board. Cesena managed to take the lead after just 10 minutes following a mistake from Christian Abbiati. For long periods of the match, Milan were searching for the elusive victory after Rami had equalised moments later. It did not come and Milan have now taken just two points from a possible nine in the last few weeks.

“Unfortunately we had the game in control and created a lot in the first half, but when you work so hard and don’t score in this heat you will pay eventually. We played very well in the first half, then got stretched out and it was tough to win after going down to 10 men. We probably deserved to score a second. I can’t complain about the team’s performance and their goalkeeper made some crucial saves, but we started to run out of steam when we didn’t make all that pressure count,” said Inzaghi.
